Is consulting a homeopath the right path for you? Maybe you have used other forms of natural medicine or holistic practice before and wonder how homeopathy might fit in? Or perhaps you have tried homeopathy before off the shelf, but have never seen a practitioner? Homeopathy is an amazing system of medicine that can support you on all levels. Different practices have different approaches, but at Return to Health, it is our aim to make utilising homeopathy quite simple and accessible for the modern, everyday person for a range of ailments and issues.

If you’re curious about homeopathy, and wonder how the consultation process unfolds, we break it all down in our latest article. Watch the video below or keep reading to hear from our practitioners El and Greta about how the homeopathic treatment process works, and how consulting a homeopath may help you unlock healing and vitality.

What is the process of homeopathic consulations?

The process of homeopathic treatment is to stimulate self-healing. So it’s about getting the mind and body and emotions to start moving and healing. The homeopath is there to support you through that process as well because obviously that can take various forms for different people, but it’s a beautiful system of medicine and there’s really no limit to what we can discuss in a consultation.

As a homeopath, we are looking at it quite holistically. We are looking for the interconnectedness between things so that we can help people identify the root cause of it, deal with that, and then move forward in their healing.

How long might homeopathic treatment take?

The length of time that treatment takes is variable, and depends on what we’re working on. It also depends on the individual, how ready they are to move in their energy and how far along that healing journey they are. We’ve seen some incredible amounts of healing in very short spaces of time, and then sometimes it takes quite a number of rounds for things to shift.

Typically if it’s a simple acute issue, for instance everyday things like accidents, illnesses, and relatively minor things, just a short consultation is all that’s needed. Or often we’ve even got products ready on the shelf that can help. In these situations we really expect resolution of those issues within days and weeks, depending obviously on what it is.

For something that’s maybe a little bit more complex and might have other treatments involved, for instance in the case of surgery, then we are probably more looking towards weeks or months. This can also depend on what our role is, whether we are supporting something or whether we are actually working to help resolve the root cause of the discomfort or the ailment.

A lot of what we deal with in our practice is what we would refer to as “complex chronic conditions.” These are advanced conditions of ill health, that may have been around for many years or been building over many years, These conditions can typically take more towards a month to a year or so of working together. In these situations we are peeling back those layers, helping to release a lot of the physical, mental and emotional symptoms, and most importantly, finding the root cause and working on that.

Typical consultation format

1. Homeopathic Consultation.

We’ll meet either in person or online, whatever works for the person, and we’ll discuss any current health complaints, issues, mental, emotional, whatever the person is really comfortable to share and what they would like to have support with.

2. Case work.

After the homeopath has gathered all the information from you during the consultation, the homeopath will either prescribe a remedy right away, or will go away and work on the case to put the remedies together based on the symptoms and the thousands of possible remedies available.

3. Prescription.

A prescription of homeopathic remedies will then be provided to the client to take for a period of time. This may be four weeks, eight weeks, or 12 weeks depending on where they’re at in their treatment. Note: unlike many other systems of medicine, your remedy prescription is included as part of the consultation!

4. Review.

After a period of time taking the remedies prescribed, the homeopath will review the case, which is really important to see how the treatment went, and understand what may have shifted for the client.

5. Further treatment.

After the initial review, we may make a plan to go on with the treatment further into the future. However, you shouldn’t need to see a homeopath indefinitely for the same issue. That’s because after a period of time, we do expect some resolution of the issue.

Homeopaths are there to support the client when they need it, and then they can come back and see us if something arises down the track.

Beneficial alongside other treatments

Homeopathy is a very safe system of medicine, and because it’s an energetic medicine it does not contraindicate other medicines or supplements. Even the process is usually quite complimentary. As long as everybody’s moving towards a natural approach for self-healing, the modalities work really quite well together.

It’s often good to combine homeopathy with something that’s either a little bit more forceful, like herbal or supplement protocol, or even body work, whether that’s chiropractic treatment, acupuncture, or massage. You’ll often get a better result faster by combining the two. So there’s no, there’s really no reason not to see a homeopath even alongside other forms of treatment.

How do I book in to see a homeopath?

We are really hoping now that we are in this beautiful new space in Burleigh Heads, that people local to us can drop in for consultations, especially for the more minor conditions.

Having that easy access to homeopathic advice and remedies will be so empowering to long-term health and overall health and wellbeing. With five practitioners, we can often see clients straight away, and also have products on the shelf available for purchase.

For acute conditions, clients can book via the website to secure an appointment, and we have plenty of availability for 15 to 30 minute consultations most days. You can make those appointments for telehealth or in-person, to suit your needs.

If the situation is a little bit more complex or layered or perhaps there’s quite a lot to discuss, then pre-booking a consultation is recommended. Usually an hour is a good place to start for the more complex situations, but we do offer a two hour consultation if you feel you need more time. Longer appointments are also available via video call or in person.

During that consultation we’ll take a lot of information, which we typically would take away for a few days while we work on the case, then contact the client again to dispense their homeopathic remedies and get them started on their treatment.
