When we think about trauma homeopathy, we often imagine working with a homeopath around the big stressful events in our lives that we haven’t been able to resolve. While this is absolutely true, it’s also important to know that lots of events can potentially cause emotional trauma. It doesn’t have to be a big event to impact us, and often, small things can go ignored, which is half the problem. If not tended to at the time, unresolved trauma does not go away, and can often lead to illness later. Find out how homeopathic remedies can be utilised for shock, grief, and emotional injury as it occurs, and even some time after. As well, individualised homeopathic treatment may help us to uncover, and address unresolved trauma we may have carried with us since childhood.

Trauma homeopathy is about addressing shock and trauma as it happens.

All accidents carry some level of emotional trauma, but upsets and stress can also carry it too, so it’s great to consider shock and trauma in our daily lives, and how we may need to address it. Trauma homeopathy is very individualised – it’s hard to say what ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ shock us or be traumatising. Events that we don’t always label ‘traumatic’ can cause us to feel emotional and if unresolved at the time, can stick in our psyche long after the event.

The very first thing we talk about in our homoeopathic first aid course is cleaning up shock and trauma and emotional upsets as soon as they happen. Even if they don’t seem particularly big or serious at the time, in clinical practice later on, it’s unresolved shock, trauma, emotional upsets and grief that causes long-term ill-health because it creates this opportunity for poor health to set in later on. So it’s a good idea to clean as you go and you can also clean up shock and trauma from a long time ago.

Watch my short video below where I talk about this in more detail in relation to trauma homeopathy and our preventative combination remedy:

What shock or trauma looks like

In homeopathic terms, shock and trauma is a disturbance to our vitality, and we experience this as a symptom. Our vital force will send us a message about the disturbance and the important thing is to be attuned to and not repress this communication. When a shocking or traumatic event occurs, we may on a physical level experience shaking,or shivering, or perhaps we feel frustrated, hot, or nauseous. These are ways our body may be trying to help us recognise and release that energy. We could also or instead, feel those symptoms on an emotional level in the form of worry, anxiousness, fear, or anger. These are all symptoms that are asking us to stop, and deal with the situation.

The thing is, often we humans are taught to try to repress or remove these symptoms, especially emotional ones, and especially if the symptom is ‘inconvenient’ at the time. Instead of recognising the symptom for what it is, we instead may try to remove ourselves from our feelings, and this attempt to disconnect, can often disrupt the pathway to resolution.

Preventative homeopathy for shock and trauma is fantastic to have at hand – I often call it the handbag remedy, because we never know when we will need it, but we always do. Not only does utilising trauma homeopathy help us acknowledge the experience of the shock and trauma symptom in the moment, but helps connect us to the vital force, and offer rebalance to that disturbance.

What about trauma that is unresolved or from childhood?

Significant traumatic events, especially experienced in childhood, can often present many layers and show up on many levels – energetically, physically, spiritually and emotionally. In clinical homeopathic practice, we never underestimate the level of shock and trauma that someone can experience.

There can be the sheer memory of the trauma which may play on repeat, or on the other hand, be inaccessible to us. We may instead, or as well, see the result of that trauma in the physical body, through chronic illness or ailment.

As well, we may experience trauma in the emotional body, often through emotions which surface unexplained, or even a feeling of emptiness, where there is a block between the person and their feelings – as the emotional body’s way of protecting itself from having to relive the feelings that were so painful in the moment.

The homeopathic approach also recognises that trauma can appear in the mental body. It can show up in the stories we tell ourselves about the trauma and also, or instead, prolonged or unresolved trauma can alter our mental processes, much like when unexplained changes occur in our emotional body.

Working with a homeopath on trauma

Trauma homeopathy in clinical practice is about recognising that trauma can affect the whole person emotionally, mentally, and physically. Rather than focusing only on the original event, treatment is based on how you are still responding to it now. When trauma has long-term effects, as homeopaths we look at your overall pattern – including your personality or ‘constitution’ as well as your emotional tendencies, physical symptoms, and life history.

Homeopaths look at emotional and physical symptoms as interconnected. Anxiety, digestive issues, fatigue, sleep problems, or chronic pain may all be part of how trauma is expressing itself in the body. The goal isn’t to erase memories, but to help the body feel safe again and support the nervous system. As the nervous system becomes more regulated, people often notice improved resilience, calmer emotions, and fewer stress-related symptoms.

Homeopathy is non-invasive and tailored to each person. Two people who experienced the same trauma may receive completely different treatment protocols, based on how their bodies and minds are responding. A pathway to healing may be surprisingly short-lived in relation to the level of the original trauma, or could require a longer response over time, where many layers are involved in restoring balance to the nervous system.

Unseen trauma

We may find that underneath other ailments and illnesses, sits another layer or layers requiring resolution. Sometimes, the client is not conscious of this.

unseen trauma

The connection of the event to the illness may not appear to be related, or even make sense to you on a mental level.

However, after homeopathic treatment working on resolution of the illness symptom (the message right in front of us), the vital force may offer symptoms more closely connected to the original disturbance (traumatic event) as part of your healing journey.

This can often feel like a breakthrough to your energy system.

Supportive therapies

When working with trauma at Return to Health, we also love to combine homeopathic prescription with complementary therapies when and where appropriate.

Trauma can be stored in the body, and holistic therapies such as therapeutic massage, Neuro-linguistic Kinesiology, or Holistic Nutrition can work with you on the physical level to naturally support healing. Or we may recommend combining homeopathic treatment with an energetic modality such as The Emotion Code, Reiki, or Pranic Energy Healing to communicate directly with the vital force and encourage resolution.
