In Australia, Summer is now upon us. In traditional teachings, Summer is known as the season of fire. It’s a time of warmth, expansion, connection and outward expression. In Summer, our energy burns brightly, movement increases and connection becomes important. So what is the homeopathic and holistic approach to this season? How can we dance and flow with its energy? In this article, I’ll explain what’s happening energetically through the season, and how you can best align yourself with its natural arc.

Early Summer – rising fire, rising movement, rising joy.

If you’re following the wheel of the year, Summer begins at Beltane (Halloween) in the Southern hemisphere. The early period of Summer flows through to Litha, the height of Summer. If you are sensitive to collective and seasonal energies, you might notice a certain feeling about the early period of the Summer season.

While we may dream of a ‘cocktails by the pool’ type of summer, in reality, that is not the energy we start with. To make a fire, you must have rising heat. When we feel Summer’s early energy, it can feel forceful, like outside forces are pushing us. The energy is rising and that upward movement can sometimes feel difficult, especially for those of us looking to wind down after a busy year. Cue the catch-ups, the bustle of Christmas preparations, the finalisation of plans for the holiday period, and a general feeling of building energy and movement in our lives and all around us.

Heightened energy can also come with emotional intensity, and a sense of restlessness. We may experience disrupted sleep, a feeling of overwhelm, or even a sense of being too wired or burnt out.

Suggestions for moving through early Summer

Bringing as much intention and awareness as possible to your energy at this time will help. You can also be mindful about what has your energy, choosing those things that really fuel you where you can. Think of the way we protect an early flame to help it ignite. Approaching the season with intention can help bring additional balance and ease to this chaotic period. What would that look like for you?

As the name suggests, Vitality can help your body’s vitality through busy periods, supporting the adrenals, promoting good sleep, and generally matching that feeling of ‘too much’ that may be an aspect of the season.

The height of Summer burns brightly

Midsummer reveals the peak of the Sun’s power. It includes the Summer Solstice (Litha) on 21/22 December. In the southern hemisphere midsummer aligns with Christmas and New Year. Like a full flame, everything is amplified – light, heat, activity, emotion, and also expectation. Everything around us is bright and illuminated in full colour. The long days bring more socialising, travel, generosity and joy. This is a lovely time to enjoy a cocktail (or mocktail) by the pool, and the signature here is to allow ourselves to be in the moment, embracing all the lightness the season provides.

The intensity of this period can be both uplifting and overwhelming: Physically, the heat can increase inflammation, or dehydration, and the season can definitely see us overindulge. On an emotional level, it can lead to heightened states – whether that be feelings of joy or agitation, even anger. Sometimes that constant outward energy can overstimulate the nervous system. Long days and odd hours can lead to disturbed sleep which has us feeling out of sorts, or out of touch with our normal sense of rhythm. We may feel heightened emotions or extra sensitive, slightly scattered, or even feel extra tired.

Tips for a holistic approach to midsummer’s flame

To help us at this time, I highly recommend our homeopathic remedy ‘Stillness’, which you can find in the Return to Self homeopathic remedy kit. Stillness assists us to find the calm centre within that allows us to really embrace each moment.

It is also helpful to add in the ‘Immune Boost‘ remedy, especially if you’re burning the candle at both ends, and even ‘Stress Repair‘ if recovering from a busy year. Both available singularly or in the Return to Self

You may also like to add the ‘Sleep Support‘ remedy into your routine, to help you feel more in tune with your own circadian rhythm regardless of what the world wants! And for the morning after one of those big summer nights? Lean on your ‘Vitality’, or even ‘Vomiting & Diarrhoea‘ combination remedy (also in our first aid kit) to get you through. You can even take it prophylactically the night before if you remember!

The golden hour of waning Summer

Late Summer carries a softer, more settled heat. It’s the still-hot embers that create a gentle glow. In the Pagan calendar, this period is held by Lammas (or Lughnasadh) on 1 February. Lammas is the first harvest festival which marks a shift from outward expansion to nourishment, grounding and gratitude.

As with the harvest, the energy of the season begins to ripen. There’s a growing sense of steadiness rather than intensity. Emotionally, late summer often brings the sense of integration that was just out of reach in summer. Offering a chance to absorb the experiences, lessons and connections gathered during the earlier, brighter months.

Late Summer is a time to notice what has grown in your life and what feels ready to be released. As well as what aspects of your life need to be tended more deeply.

he body may crave more routine, more stable rhythms and more grounding foods through late summer.

This period invites us to honour both the abundance and the fatigue that can follow prolonged outward energy. This helps us prepare to transition gently toward the quieter seasons.

The best time for resolutions

At New Year, in the midst of mid-Summer, many people feel pressured to set resolutions or map out the year ahead, but energetically this is still a time of peak fire, not insight. The nervous system is stimulated, emotions run high, and the pace of life rarely allows for genuine reflection. In the Pagan calendar, the turning point is Litha, a moment of fullness rather than foresight.

True clarity begins to emerge in late summer, around Lammas. This is when insights ripen naturally and the noise quietens just enough to hear what your deeper self is trying to articulate. Instead of forcing direction in the height of Summer, you could wait for the steadier, more grounded wisdom of late Summer. This is the perfect time to set intentions from a place of true alignment with yourself, and with nature, rather than from a sense of urgency or obligation.

Late Summer is an especially lovely part of the year to have a check-in with your homeopath around your personal goals. Contemplating your own personal harvest, you can harness the energy of self-reflection to work with the energy that is seeking resolution within you. Your homeopath can help facilitate the energetic shifts you need on all levels, allowing you to sow the seeds of a beautiful year of growth.

Embrace joy of the season of fire

Each phase of Summer offers its own rhythm and invitation. When we honour the energies that nature provides, we move through the season with greater ease. Enabling our own energies to rise, shine and finally integrate in their own natural time. We hope you feel uplifted by the joy and possibilities that Summer can bring,
